Thanks, Liane. So basically Substack is direct marketing and there are no algorithms. Your posts go directly to your subscribers’ inboxes, and not through some system that determines who will see your post, and how widely (or not) it gets distributed. Substack also doesn’t track you in invasive ways like Meta does…. And you get to control how your content gets displayed and seen(no conforming to sizes and dimensions of images etc.) I bet there’s more, but those are the major differences , I think! Thanks again for the comment! Enjoy grid-making✍️🙂- r
Rina, thanks. This is really helpful. I’ve lost a longtime friend and subscriber because she found both on Substack the paywalls and the plethora of goodies to read distracting. So from a subscriber’s point of view I’m also hearing from others that there are too many subscriptions they want to subscribe to. But I agree that the Substack to email flow is a big plus. Huge.
I too share your sentiments. And the grid idea is a great jumping off point for generating ideas. Your last drawings are something similar that I started doing at a very young age while talking on the phone. It's amazing how one side of the brain can carry on a coherent conversation while the other side can mindlessly create wonderful drawings of sorts.
Yes, it’s been said that when you’re doodling you actually are more focused and so can “absorb” more in phone conversations, meetings etc… I like to doodle while on the phone, too. It’s both mindless and mindful, somehow! Thanks so much for the feedback!✍️🙂
Congrats on being a crossword clue! I'm so proud of you! I do at least two crosswords per day, not counting my struggles with the Guardian's "quick" crosswords. Which puzzle were you in? That's absolutely the coolest!
Two? Wow— that and all that drawing too. Do you sleep? lol. Thanks, Wayno! Btw, the crossword was in the Toronto Star (they also run Rhymes With Orange)😊
Frank, thank you! I think it’s great you’re quitting too. I think there’s going to be a whole lot more people dumping X and Meta/instagram. Let me know if you’re on Bluesky yet!✌️
I share your sentiments and would be keen to hear why you personally think Substack is a cut above. The grid exercise looks like great fun.

Thanks for these fun ideas, Rina, and your positive, light-hearted attitude! And for the rant against algorithms!
Thanks, Anne!🙂
These are so cool.
Thanks!🙏🙂

Love the grid idea! Makes the blank page less daunting. Congrats on the crossword mention, too.
Thanks! ✍️🙂

Sleep? What's that?
There are times when I ask that same question 😂
YES, RINA! the great QUIT is on! I deleted my Twit-X account a few days ago and Facebook will follow, no set date yet.
Update: I followed you on Bluesky👍

My newsletter will remain free, but thank you, Steven Anderson, for showing your support with a pledge… I really appreciate that! 🙏🤗
